Say No to Coal
The Say No to Coal Working Group contributes to the province wide campaign to prevent the expansion of coal mining in Alberta.
Alberta Coal Campaign History and Outcomes
We formed in January, 2021 in response to the decision by the Alberta United Conservative Party (UCP) government to cancel the 1976 Alberta Coal Policy and open up the Eastern Slopes of the Rockies to new metallurgical coal mines.

Current Status`
The movement to stop coal has accomplished a lot but it is not over yet. All coal development, except for advanced projects, has been halted. Decisions on mine development will be made in as part of land use planning. The four advanced projects are in the midst of the regulatory process and may be accepted or rejected.
What’s Next?
The Sat No to Coal Working Group will join with other groups in Alberta to monitor developments and take action as needed. This may include input into the regulatory process for the mines designated as advanced projects and providing input during land use planning.
